Satula Named Director of Wisconsin Emergency Management
Madison – Governor Scott Walker has named Brian M. Satula as Administrator of Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM). Satula has over 33 years experience in fire services including five years as fire chief of the City of Oak Creek Fire Department.
"Brian Satula has had a distinguished career in fire services and emergency management," said Governor Walker. "I know Brian's top priority is protecting our citizens and communities. His extensive experience as a first responder to numerous emergencies including fires, natural disasters and hazardous material spills, and his vast knowledge of emergency management will serve him well in this position."
Satula, 54, recently retired as fire chief with the City of Oak Creek Fire Department. He is a current member of the Governor's Homeland Security Council. Satula serves as president of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Wisconsin, a mutual aid system used for fire services. He also has served on various state and national fire, law enforcement, communications, and mutual aid committees. In addition to these qualifications, Brian Satula is an instructor at the Milwaukee Area Technical College in the Associate Degree and certification programs, and he is state-certified fire service instructor and a National Incident Command System instructor.
Satula earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Management and Communications at Concordia University. Currently, he is enrolled in the Naval Post-Graduate School, Master of Arts in Homeland Defense and Security Studies.
Satula assumes his new duties, Sunday, May 22, 2011.
Wisconsin Emergency Management coordinates effective disaster response and recovery efforts in support of local governments. WEM programs include Hazard Mitigation, Warning and Communications, Emergency Police and Fire Services, Disaster Response and Recovery, Hazardous Materials & EPCRA, Radiological Emergency Preparedness, and Exercise and Training for the State of Wisconsin.
