I would like to begin my first presidents’ message with a thank you for allowing me to serve you in this position.
We had a wonderful convention at the Kalahari this summer based on the feedback we received. The process has already begun to keep the momentum going for next year’s event to ensure it is equally successful. My hats off to the board, Jane Svinicki and Kelly Lang for their hard work in making this happen. I would also like to thank the Wisconsin Fire Service Administrative Association for their help in registration.
As important as our convention is, our goals for this year are to increase the value of your membership throughout the year. The association has always been there advocating for the fire service on your behalf as well as being available for support, but our aim is to increase the influence and accessibility of the power of our organization. As presented at the conference our hope is to harness more of the influence of our members to enhance our political initiatives and clout. We will also increase the information and networking opportunities for you through various means including our website and additional educational offerings in convenient times and settings.
The job of being a Fire Chief has never been more challenging, the expectations of the public and our departments is only increasing and with limited resources this is a challenge to us all. To meet this challenge we need to rely on each other more than ever in an organized manner, “Together We Can make a Difference”. This is the vision of our board, to make this organization the forum to help meet your needs and find the answers to questions you have to be successful as a Chief. I hope you find this, our third issue, an important part of our efforts in meeting this vision.
In closing, I want to remind you all to take care of yourself, we cannot serve others if we are not looking out for our own well being. See your physician regularly, follow their advice, eat well and exercise, there are a lot of people that care and are counting on you. I wish you all good health and safe service.
